Ulrich Siegmund, the AfD candidate for the ministerial presidency in Saxony-Anhalt, stated that his primary motivation is the desire to ensure the election of the Minister President during the first round. He told the news broadcaster “Welt” that this outcome was a necessary prerequisite for him to move forward publicly and set a specific timeline.
Siegmund announced his intention to commence his plans in December. However, he also acknowledged that there are still unresolved political matters within his faction and with other members of parliament.
The AfD politician explained that while these political issues are numerous, they are fundamentally solvable and are expected to require time. Due to these internal discussions with his colleagues, December has been set as the target date. Nevertheless, he emphasized the strength of their commitment, noting that they now have a fixed date they intend to uphold and work toward diligently.
