The Federal Council has given its approval to the government’s proposed amendment to the Tobacco Tax Law, according to the statement released by the representation of the states. This legislation mandates a regular increase in the tax placed on tobacco products over the next four years. Specifically for a standard 20-cigarette pack, prices will rise from the current €8.77 to €9.56 beginning next year, reaching an projected cost of €11.36 by 2030. Furthermore, the bill introduces tax increases not only for standard cigarettes but also for various other items, including chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco, heated tobacco, water pipe tobacco, and substitutes for tobacco products.
