Employers are pressing the Federal Employment Agency to intensify its efforts to connect unemployed individuals with companies more quickly, citing current unemployment figures. According to Rainer Dulger, president of the Federation of German Employers’ Associations, there are already “more than one million open positions and over 100,000 unfilled training slots, which clearly shows that professional opportunities exist” (as reported by Handelsblatt’s Thursday edition).
He continued that employment agencies and job centers must now focus intensely on reducing the mismatch issues within the job market. Dulger stated that open positions must be filled and that trainees and job seekers must transition into new employees.
To achieve this, the social state must place greater emphasis on personal responsibility, Dulger demanded. He argued that qualifications must lead directly to actual employment, career guidance must provide reliable support to young people starting out, and enhanced mobility must unlock new opportunities.
