Texas Flood Death Toll Soars Beyond 60

The death toll from the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas has risen to at least 67. Local authorities across several counties have confirmed the rising numbers of fatalities, with the hardest hit being Kerr County, where 59 deaths have been recorded. Travis County reports four deaths, Burnet County reports three and Kendall County confirms one.

In Kerr County, the grim tally includes 38 adults and 21 children. Tragically, 18 adults and four children remain unidentified.

According to measurements from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, water levels in the affected rivers have largely receded to pre-storm levels. However, search and rescue operations are ongoing, complicated by the continued absence of eleven children and one adult from Camp Mystic, a nearby facility. Kerr County Sheriff’s officials have stated that efforts remain focused on locating those missing.

Questions persist regarding the timing of potential evacuation orders, particularly concerning Camp Mystic. While the Texas Division of Emergency Management had issued warnings about a potential storm several days prior, officials in Kerrville have yet to provide a detailed explanation for why evacuations were not initiated earlier. City Manager Dalton Rice emphasized that immediate priorities are to reunite missing children with their families.
