Left Leader Demands Coalition Withdraw ‘Social Haircut’ Reforms Causing Public Outcry

Heidi Reichinnek, the leader of the Linke faction, has urged the black-and-red coalition to decide at Wednesday evening’s Coalition Committee meeting to retract its reform plans instead of engaging in discussions about internal group harmony.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Thursday, Reichinnek stated, “Another Coalition Committee meeting, and again there will be no new decisions, only a round of group cuddles-because this time too, it is mainly about the mood within the coalition.”

The socialist politician added, “The mood is presumably quite bad, but it is still far from as bad as the mood of the people in the country. And that is exactly what the coalition should intensively discuss today.”

She continued, asserting that the government should finally realize that its plans, which are disguised as reforms, are causing frustration and anger through severe social cuts. “The time has come to withdraw the announced deteriorations for the vast majority of people,” Reichinnek concluded.
