Left Party politician Cansin Köktürk threatened CDU member Jürgen Hardt with legal action during a Bundestag debate commemorating the anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attacks. In a brief intervention to the plenary, Köktürk stated, “You will hear from my lawyer.”
The threat followed Hardt’s previous critique of Köktürk’s public remarks. Hardt had labeled a video she published as “antisemitic.” Köktürk vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that she has a duty to act due to what she considers to be genocide being committed by Israel.
Threatening legal action over positions regarding Israel and Palestine is not a new occurrence in the political landscape. Most recently, Elif Eralp, the leadership candidate for the Berlin Left, filed a police report against Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) for suspicion of defamation and insults.
