CDU MP Demands Urgent Pace for Reforms, Urges Coalition to Deliver on Promises

Pascal Reddig, a CDU member of the Bundestag and chairman of the Young Group within the Union parliamentary faction, is demanding that the government accelerate the pace of announced reforms. Speaking to the TV channel Welt, Reddig stated they cannot afford to just continue discussions; instead, they must start delivering results and honoring the public trust placed in them. Following the cabinet meeting the previous evening, he emphasized that the federal government cannot stop merely making political declarations. “The vast majority of people do not expect us to spend all our time arguing, but they want us to finally implement what we promised them,” the CDU politician added.

Reddig specifically called upon Federal Minister of Labour, Bärbel Bas (SPD), to take action. He noted that a reform proposal regarding pensions is on the table, intended to strengthen the country’s retirement savings for the coming decades. He expects Minister Bas and her ministry to finally submit a draft law that aligns with the findings of the Pension Commission and the commitments made before the summer break-specifically, the promise to implement everything one-to-one.

He also pointed out that action is needed in the fields of the labor market and basic social security. “We stated that we want to continue saving resources and reducing costs under basic social security. This applies to accommodation costs, for example. In that area too, we are waiting for a draft law,” the CDU deputy stated.

Reflecting on the Union’s approval ratings and the public confidence in the governing coalition, Reddig argued that endless details-based debates are pointless. Instead, they need to analyze the root cause of why so many people in the country, particularly in the political center, are losing faith. “Therefore, the core expectation I have of our leaders, both in the Union and the SPD, is that we must pull ourselves together now and do what the people expect of us.”
