U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia will begin sending large deliveries of diesel fuel to the global and American markets. The announcement followed an “extremely successful conversation” Trump claimed to have had with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Trump’s post on his personal social media platform, the agreement stipulates that Russia will deliver over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel immediately, followed by an additional 500,000 tons during November, and a further 1,000,000 tons shortly thereafter. Additionally, Russia is expected to deliver another 3,000,000 tons of fuel in a short time, contingent upon the operational status of its diesel refineries.
This supply comes at a time when energy prices have been driven upward by the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, compounded by the subsequent blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump promised that these diesel deliveries would cause prices to “drop by record amounts-and quickly.”
