Employer President Rainer Dulger asserts that the federal government bears the primary responsibility for restoring German’s competitiveness as an economic center. Speaking to RTL and ntv, Dulger insisted that the government has a clear mandate to reform the country, rather than the economy itself. He countered the criticism that the business sector has missed opportunities, stating, “I don’t believe anything was neglected by the economy.” Rather, the current regulatory framework no longer suits the demands of the modern age.
Therefore, he called for changes to bureaucracy, labor costs, and state structures. “Germany simply needs to become faster, better, and simpler again,” Dulger stated. However, he affirmed that industry leaders are ready to support the federal government in implementing reforms wherever possible.
Regarding the pension reform, Dulger demanded the accelerated implementation of the existing plans. According to him, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had informed him that the Cabinet had adopted a specific proposal. “It must now be quickly drafted into a legislative text and submitted to the Bundestag for a vote, since that is where it belongs, and this needs to happen swiftly.”
