Witt Warning: AI’s Rise Threatens Social Stability and Demands Urgent Societal Planning

Musician Joachim Witt has issued a warning regarding potential societal conflicts stemming from the use of artificial intelligence. Speaking to the television channel “Welt” and the magazine “Rolling Stone,” Witt stated that the rapid adoption of AI will lead to social unrest. He emphasized that there must be measures to support people through this transition, arguing that society needs to start discussing social programs and funds immediately, lest “the devil be loose.”

The artist criticized the current lack of discussion surrounding the social consequences of this technological development, noting that he has not yet heard from any sufficiently competent source regarding how people in this situation should be supported. Since not everyone can immediately find a replacement job, Witt strongly cautioned that this issue must be taken extremely seriously, a level of seriousness he feels is currently missing. He expressed hope that it will not be too late to address the problem.

Despite his concerns about the societal impact, Witt himself utilizes AI in his artistic work. “I work extensively with AI,” he shared. He uses artificial intelligence not only for inspiration and designing album covers but also “in composition to some degree.” He stated that he has never been fearful of new technological advancements, adding, “It is exactly the same with AI now.”

Joachim Witt first gained fame in 1981 with the hit “Goldener Reiter,” becoming one of the most recognizable figures of the New German Wave. He achieved another major success in 1998 with Peter Heppner’s “Die Flut.” Throughout his career, Witt has moved between pop, rock, and electronic music.
