The ongoing controversy surrounding the “Masks Affair” has seen Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer publicly express his support for Jens Spahn, parliamentary group leader of the CDU and former Federal Minister of Health.
Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, Kretschmer emphasized Spahn’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic. He stated that Spahn assumed responsibility, made difficult decisions and guided the nation through an unprecedented crisis.
Kretschmer further praised Spahn’s recent reflections on the period, describing his openness, self-criticism and conciliatory tone as demonstrating both strength and a recognition that valuable lessons must be drawn from the experience. The CDU deputy chairman conveyed his respect and full backing for Spahn’s perspective.
