The planned “Elmau Strategy Summit” for Tuesday and Wednesday has been cancelled due to the unrest in France and Italy. The German Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday that the trilateral meeting of the interior ministers in Elmau must be postponed at short notice “due to the current events in our partner countries.” A rescheduled date will be announced later. The German Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), was originally scheduled to meet his counterparts from France and Italy, Laurent Nunez and Matteo Piantedosi, at Elmau Castle in Bavaria. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the fight against organized crime, dealing with hybrid threats, and measures against societal radicalization. The unrest in France and Italy is currently marked by repeated, sometimes violent demonstrations stemming from protests against high prices, low wages, and poor educational facilities.
