Dax Rallies Moderately as Investors Seek Stronger Momentum and Earnings Catalysts

On Wednesday, the Dax turned positive after a modest start to the trading day, reaching approximately 25,435 points by 12:30 PM. This represented a gain of 0.5 percent compared to the previous trading day. Among the top gainers were Adidas, Infineon, and Bayer, while the stock decliners included FMC, Continental, and Volkswagen.

Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, commented on the market’s subdued momentum, stating, “The Dax continues to move within a tight trading range. New buying impulses are scarce, and even the improved mood in the international technology sector can hardly give the German blue-chip index a push.” He added that the Dax simply lacks the necessary “DNA” to benefit as strongly from the resurging AI euphoria as Wall Street.

Lipkow explained that investors are currently focusing their attention on the earnings reports from Netflix and United Airlines, which provide more guarded insights into consumer sentiment and economic development. In contrast, positive news came from Adidas: “Reimbursement of customs duties from the US gives the sportswear company more room to maneuver and provides a more optimistic outlook for the coming quarters.”

The analyst concluded that more movement might appear starting the following day, once investors have processed the quarterly figures from SAP, Meta, and Tesla. For now, the focus remains on finding a proper valuation for the stocks. Lipkow stated that the exchanges are currently in a period of reorientation: investors are keen to reinvest, but they still lack sufficiently convincing arguments to do so.

Meanwhile, the European common currency was slightly weaker midday on Wednesday, trading at 1.1219 US dollars per Euro. Conversely, the oil price increased; a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost around $111.10 at 12:00 PM German time, marking a 2.1 percent increase from the close of the previous day.
