Slight Bump: German GDP Grows in Q3 Despite Slowing Exports and Investments

Germany’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.2 percent in the third quarter of 2026, compared to the second quarter, when adjusted for prices, seasonality, and calendar effects. This growth follows a period of expansion experienced during the first half of 2026.

According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), consumption expenditures showed a slight positive increase compared to the previous quarter when adjusted for prices, seasonality, and calendar effects. However, preliminary figures indicate a decline in investments. The momentum in exports, which was notably strong during the first half of 2026, noticeably slowed down during the third quarter.

Looking at the yearly comparison, price-adjusted GDP in the third quarter of 2026 registered a 1.3 percent increase over the third quarter of 2025. When prices and calendar factors are taken into account, this annual rise was 1.2 percent.
