Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has expressed growing concerns regarding the evolving international and domestic perspectives on his country’s actions in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict. He stated that a unified understanding, prevalent immediately following the Hamas terror attacks, has largely dissolved both globally and within Israel.
Speaking to the German newspaper “Tagesspiegel”, Olmert observed a significant shift in international comprehension, noting that “worldwide, few can now understand what the Israeli government is doing in Gaza.
Previously, in an interview with “The Guardian”, Olmert drew a comparison between a proposed Gaza camp from Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and a “concentration camp” a statement he clarified was intended as a cautionary warning. He emphasized that the international community would rightly perceive such a facility as “monstrous.
Olmert further expressed concern over a perceived trend within Israel, where criticism of the government is frequently labelled as antisemitism to silence dissenting voices. He deemed this tactic “absolutely unacceptable”.
