Connemann Unfazed by Expert’s Constitutional Concerns

The German government’s Commissioner for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Gitta Connemann of the CDU, has remained unfazed by a recent television appearance by constitutional lawyer Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf.

Connemann, speaking to RTL and ntv television channels, stated that suggestions made by the jurist regarding a potential withdrawal of her candidacy for the Federal Constitutional Court did not contribute to resolving the ongoing disagreement within the ruling coalition government. She emphasized that the ultimate decision will be reached through direct discussions amongst the coalition partners – the SPD, CDU and CSU – and will not be influenced by media appearances or public debate.

The State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs described the personnel matter as overly emotionalized and stressed the importance of keeping such discussions private. Referencing Chancellor Merz, Connemann underscored that a constructive resolution requires direct dialogue between the three coalition factions.
