Bavaria is maintaining its longstanding policy of fixed summer holiday dates, dismissing calls for adjustments to synchronize with other German states. Martin Huber, General Secretary of the Christian Social Union (CSU), confirmed the state’s firm stance in an interview with the “Rheinische Post.
Huber stated that Bavaria’s holiday schedule would remain unchanged, emphasizing that other states are free to coordinate amongst themselves if they desire. He characterized Bavaria’s summer holiday timeframe as deeply ingrained in the rhythm of life for residents, even going so far as to describe it as “part of the Bavarian DNA.
The current system sees summer vacations begin at different times in 14 German states on a rotating basis, designed to distribute tourist traffic. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, however, operate under a separate agreement, consistently starting their summer holidays at the end of July. This arrangement is currently slated to remain in effect until 2030.
Calls for modifications have emerged from states like North Rhine-Westphalia, which have explored the possibility of commencing summer holidays later in the year.
