The AfD party leader, Tino Chrupalla, has described recently implemented behavioral guidelines for the AfD parliamentary group as a move towards “professionalization”. Speaking to RTL and ntv, he emphasized the need to differentiate between speeches delivered at demonstrations and those given within the Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament.
Chrupalla explained that assuming responsibility within the country requires a certain level of measured public presentation. He acknowledged that as the largest opposition party, establishing and refining internal protocols is a necessary step.
The party’s ultimate goal, he stated, is to assume a governing role in the foreseeable future, a responsibility that also falls within the functions of an effective opposition. He underscored the importance of distinguishing between the dynamics of social media echo chambers and the expectations associated with parliamentary addresses.
Responding to inquiries regarding the new regulations, Chrupalla reiterated the need to differentiate between the style of a demonstration speech and that of a parliamentary address, asserting that this aligns with the expectations of their increasingly broad base of supporters. The changes have reportedly garnered significant support within the parliamentary group, signaling a concerted effort towards adapting their public image.
