In light of high fuel prices, the ADAC is calling for a reduction in the electricity tax, arguing it would offer relief to all consumers while also incentivizing the switch to electric vehicles. According to an ADAC spokesperson speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” lowering electricity taxes would provide an added financial benefit for private households. Furthermore, it would encourage individuals who are considering purchasing an EV. While consumer decisions regarding propulsion types are highly personal and dependent on numerous factors, even with elevated gasoline costs, the ADAC spokesperson noted that current new car subsidies could help expand the group of people who are able to afford a new electric vehicle. Nevertheless, the high initial purchase price, coupled with insufficient charging infrastructure, is cited as one of the primary reasons why consumers hesitate.
