AfD BSW Alliance Sparks Alarm

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has voiced strong concerns regarding potential collaboration between the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) parties at the federal level.

Dirk Wiese, parliamentary director for the SPD, cautioned against such an alliance, describing the ongoing discussions between the AfD and BSW as “a sinister alliance”. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” Wiese expressed his apprehension about Sahra Wagenknecht’s party aligning with figures like Björn Höcke, a prominent right-wing extremist within the AfD.

“This is a dangerous game with fire and a fatal development, even if a cooperation wouldn’t be surprising” Wiese stated. He urged Wagenknecht to maintain a course aligned with democratic principles and avoid a further shift to the right.

These warnings follow a controversial meeting between the leaders of the AfD and BSW in Thuringia, where AfD leader Tino Chrupalla confirmed that his party was in contact with the BSW at the national level. The potential for a broader political alignment between the two parties has sparked considerable debate and concern within Germany’s political landscape.
