AfD Politician Attacked at Campaign Standoff Amid Political Dispute

On Saturday, following a party gathering, an unknown individual reportedly committed a violent act at a campaign booth belonging to the Berlin AfD. Around 11:45 AM, the man allegedly threw a can of cola over an information stand located on Wilmersdorfer Straße. When the Berlin Member of Parliament, Marc Vallendar, attempted to stop him, he received a punch to the face.

According to a statement released by the AfD on Saturday afternoon, the man then fled the scene. Party members and witnesses who rushed to the location were able to pursue him for a time but did not manage to apprehend him. However, the statement noted that “informative video material” is available, suggesting that a photo search might be promising.

Vallendar confirmed that he filed a police report for bodily harm. The parliamentarian, who has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 2016, stated that such acts of violence aim to sabotage the political shaping process, but that this effort will fail. He added that it will not succeed because an increasing number of citizens are recognizing the danger that comes from the radicalized political left for the community.
