AI Hype Drives US Markets Higher as Indices Reach New Highs

US stock exchanges saw gains on Tuesday. At the close in New York, the Dow was calculated at 51,521 points, marking a 0.5 percent increase compared to the previous trading day. Moments earlier, the broader S&P 500 was up 0.6 percent, reaching approximately 7,819 points, while the technology exchange, Nasdaq, registered the Nasdaq 100 at around 31,224 points, also showing a 0.5 percent gain. Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 reached new record highs on Tuesday. This upward trend is primarily driven by the hype surrounding artificial intelligence. Shares from chip developer Nvidia, which also announced further share buybacks the day before, specifically benefited from this boom. Meanwhile, the rapid growth powered by AI is masking recent declines in other sectors, such as real estate and industry.

In other financial markets, the European community currency strengthened on Tuesday evening; the exchange rate was set at 1 Euro equaling 1.1260 US dollars, meaning one dollar was worth 0.8881 Euros. Concurrently, the price of gold saw a profit, trading at $4,168 per fine ounce in the evening, an increase of 0.7 percent, equating to €119.02 per gram. Oil prices, however, rose. At approximately 10 PM German time on Tuesday, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $101.10, which was 0.8 percent higher-or 75 cents-than the closing price of the previous day.
