Air Canada Jet Hits Fire Truck at LaGuardia, Killing Both Pilots

At the LaGuardia Airport in New York, an Air Canada regional jet struck one of the airport authority’s vehicles early Monday morning. The CRJ‑900, which had just landed after a flight from Montreal, collided with the vehicle at a speed of roughly 38 kilometres per hour.

Initially no official confirmation was issued regarding injuries or fatalities. Media reports, however, indicated that both the pilot and the co‑pilot lost their lives. It is reported that more than a dozen passengers aboard the aircraft suffered injuries of varying severity.

The incident prompted the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to impose a ground stop on all flights at LaGuardia. Incoming aircraft were rerouted to other airports or returned to their departure points. According to airport officials, the aircraft collided with a fire truck that was on its way to attend another incident.
