Investigators have uncovered new information regarding the 20-year-old suspect involved in the attack on the ICE 19 train near Siegburg, which resulted in ten minor injuries. According to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”, the individual was already categorized by the Aachen state security office under “right-wing politically motivated crime” and is believed to be suffering from significant mental health issues.
The sequence of events began on Thursday evening when the suspect boarded the train at Aachen Central Station. Shortly after departure, he allegedly sent emails to various media outlets and the federal government, announcing a planned attack on the route from Cologne to Frankfurt. In these communications, he reportedly expressed his intention to kill as many people as possible using a knife.
The emergency was brought to light when a passenger contacted the local dispatch center to report that an explosive device had been detonated in a carriage and that an individual was locked inside a restroom. At the time of the call, the passenger was unaware of any injuries.
