Federal Minister Philipp Amthor, who serves as the State Minister for Federal-State Cooperation, has ordered the removal of a beach chair that had been placed outside his office at the Chancellery. According to Government Spokesperson Steffen Meyer, the chair will be transported back to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The original placement of the chair had been featured in the ZDF documentary “Inside CDU,” which led to a significant debate across social media. Despite the decision to call off the display, Meyer defended the initial gesture, noting that the beach chair was manufactured in Amthor’s local constituency on the island of Usedom. Meyer added that the Minister initially wanted to use the chair as a visible symbol of his home region within the Federal Chancellery.
The spokesman further stated that Minister Amthor took the public criticism very seriously. He stressed that the beach chair was a private purchase, and that both the delivery and the setup had been financed by him personally.
