Are Your Vacation Plans at Risk?

Data released Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) indicates a notable increase in the cost of international flights and package holidays during the first half of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.

International flight tickets saw an overall rise of 3.8 percent. The most significant price increases were observed in economy-class flights to European destinations, which rose by 7.7 percent. Travelers heading to North America paid approximately 1.7 percent more for long-haul flights, while fares to Central America increased by 0.3 percent. Conversely, prices decreased for flights to South America (-3.0 percent) and Africa (-4.6 percent). The largest price reduction was recorded for flights to Asia and Australia, experiencing a decrease of 5.8 percent.

The cost of domestic flights within Germany witnessed an even steeper increase, rising by 5.0 percent when compared to the first half of 2024.

Holidaymakers also faced higher costs for package holidays abroad, with prices averaging 5.4 percent higher than in the first half of 2024. Destinations experiencing comparatively high increases included Turkey (+10.1 percent), Egypt (+8.3 percent) and Greece (+6.4 percent). Price increases were less pronounced for package holidays to popular destinations such as the Canary Islands (+4.4 percent) and the Balearic Islands (+1.9 percent).

The price increases for domestic package holidays within Germany were more moderate, rising by 2.2 percent compared to the first half of 2024.
