The FC Augsburg team secured a 2-0 victory against 1. FC Köln on the 24th matchday of the Bundesliga.
For a long time both sides kept the scoreline level. While the hosts started with determination, clear finishing touches proved to be scarce. The best opportunity of the first half came for the visitors: Eric Martel headed the ball off the crossbar. The game remained goalless as it entered the break.
After the interval Augsburg increased the pressure and it paid off. In the 55th minute, Rodrigo Ribeiro gave the home side a valuable lead. Köln pushed hard for an equaliser, creating chances such as a header from Kristoffer Lund and another opportunity from Luca Waldschmidt. However, either goalkeeper Finn Dahmen was in the right place or the shots were narrowly off target.
In the dying minutes the visitors again tried to level the score. Cenk Özkacar had the biggest chance late on, but he missed. Finally, in the 6th minute of added time, Alexis Claude‑Maurice sealed the win for Augsburg, scoring the second goal. As the Augsburger confirmed their strong form at home, Köln missed out on crucial points.
