Author Reveals Disturbing Obsession

Bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek, known for his explorations of mortality in his novels, has recently shared reflections on the passage of time and the pursuit of a more mindful existence. In an interview with “Apotheken Umschau”, Fitzek, now 53, addressed the inevitable considerations that accompany aging, stating he has contemplated the number of summers he might yet experience.

This contemplation, he explained, naturally extends to a question of purpose: “Am I actually using the time I have usefully?” While acknowledging moments where anxieties and obligations can overshadow enjoyment, Fitzek emphasized a growing awareness. “I live much more consciously than I did before, I can say that.

Fitzek’s latest novel, “Horror-Date” features protagonists facing limited lifespans, a theme that spurred broader introspection. Should the opportunity arise, Fitzek shared his aspirations for experiencing a life filled with new adventures. “I would travel and do things I’m yet to do” he commented. “I would try to accumulate as many memories as possible.

Despite this desire for future experiences, a strong emphasis remains on appreciating the present. Fitzek expressed a longing for the exuberance he observes in others, noting that he often feels a disconnect from the carefree enjoyment of social gatherings. Ultimately, he confessed a desire to one day review a “highlight reel” of his life, not simply to witness past events, but to truly internalize and appreciate moments he previously missed.
