The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is backing Federal Minister of Economics, Katherina Reiche (CDU), amidst the current debate over the federal government’s reform agenda. The VDA’s President, Hildegard Müller, told “Bild am Sonntag” that Minister Reiche is correct in arguing that economic growth forms the foundation of their social market economy and that structural readjustments are necessary for this to occur, without adding further strain to the budget. Müller further commented that proposals such as advancing the reduction of corporate tax, a pragmatic energy policy, and honest communication with citizens about the reality of working more and for longer are logical and essential. She emphasized that Germany faces significant reform needs in all sectors, stating that minor steps are insufficient. Instead, the nation requires a major turning point, a fundamental shift in thinking, and above all, the courage to enforce changes; only through this approach can growth, prosperity, and jobs be secured.
