By 2 p.m. on the Baden‑Württemberg state election day, about 41 % of eligible voters had cast their ballots at polling stations.
At the same time during the 2021 election, turnout was only around 31 %, a marked drop, the state election board said. The 2 p.m. figure did not include mail‑in votes. It’s worth noting that five years earlier, COVID‑related restrictions meant far fewer people had gone to the polls.
Polling stations will remain open until 6 p.m., after which early projections are expected. The official final turnout for the 2021 election was 63.8 %.
