Deutsche Bahn Revises Policy on Family Reservations Amidst Renewed Criticism
The German railway company, Deutsche Bahn, is adjusting its stance on family reservations following a recent surge of controversy. According to a report in Handelsblatt, an internal communication addressed to the Transport Committee accuses parents of “abusive” use of the previously complimentary seating arrangements.
The railway initially discontinued the free reservations in early June, a decision that drew significant criticism from families and political figures. This latest development is reigniting those concerns.
The internal memo states that over the past few years, the blanket family reservation system had been increasingly exploited. Deutsche Bahn cited instances of excessive seat bookings, multiple reservations and small groups utilizing the offer in a manner inconsistent with its intended purpose. The company also emphasized the need for cost savings.
