Green Party leader Felix Banaszak dismissed the public debates about a European nuclear bomb as mere alarm‑mongering. “It is irresponsible to scare the public with constantly new developments that many find hard to understand” he said on an ARD Hauptstadt studio podcast.
Banaszak’s remarks distance him from former Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, also a Green, who in a newspaper interview called for a European nuclear build‑up. While Banaszak agrees that Chancellor Merz should discuss with European partners whether such a system would make the continent defensible, he insists those talks should take place behind closed doors.
