After the Greens’ success in the Baden‑Württemberg state election, party leader Felix Banaszak sees a “tailwind” for the federal party. “The Greens can win elections again when they combine two things: clear content and also appealing to the broader population” Banaszak said on Monday on the ARD morning programme.
He argues that the direction set by top candidate Cem Özdemir provides that tailwind, showing that “if we approach it correctly, there’s a lot for us to gain”.
Banaszak says the federal Greens are currently stabilised in the polls at about 13 - 14 percent, but he believes there is still room to grow. “We want the Greens to become a guiding force for large parts of society again, to signal that we have our eyes on the whole community while pairing that with a clear vision for positive change”.
