Bavarian Premier Markus Söder Questions Youth Social‑Media Ban, Urges Online Transparency

Bavarian Prime Minister and CSU leader Markus Söder has spoken out against proposals from parts of the SPD and CDU to restrict social‑media access for young people. “Friends of the Social Democrats are often at the forefront when it comes to bans. I am cautious about that” he told the “Mediengruppe Bayern” on Wednesday. He added that while many issues can be discussed, this one is not among the most urgent concerns at present.

Söder argues that a clearer requirement for real names online would be a more pressing measure. “Street demonstrations already have a valid mask‑ban for good reasons. Why not apply a similar rule to the digital realm? That would change a lot” he said.
