Bayern Munich Edge Borussia Dortmund 3‑2, Extend Championship Lead to 11 Points

Bayern Munich clinched a 3‑2 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night, the headline match of the Bundesliga season.

In the first half Dortmund seized the initiative. A Daniel Svensson corner found the centre of the penalty area, where Nico Schlotterbeck launched a powerful header that slipped past the far post in the 26th minute. The half was characterized by numerous possession battles, a few stoppages and limited clear chances for either side. Dortmund’s defense remained compact, while Bayern dominated possession but struggled to create dangerous opportunities. Hamburg captain Emre Can suffered a knee injury after a tackle and was forced off the pitch in the first half.

After the break Bayern pressed harder and earned a 1‑1 draw. A well‑constructed attack left Joshua Kimmich delivering the ball into the box where Serge Gnabry met it with a header that tipped the ball to Harry Kane’s fingertips. The English striker finished the chance to equalise in the 54th minute.

Shortly after, Bayern found a way back into the lead. Josip Stanisic was fouled in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Kane calmly converted, and with a 2‑1 advantage for the league leaders the scoreboard read 2-1 at the 70th minute.

Dortmund refused to concede and, as Bayern relaxed slightly in the final stages, the hosts seized space. Marcel Sabitzer pulled the ball from half‑field, passed to Svensson who immediately launched a goal‑line strike, slotted the ball home in the 83rd minute to make it 2‑2.

The match stayed tight. Bayern almost returned to the lead again when after a combination involving Michael Olise and Luis Diaz the midfielder missed an opportunity by a few centimetres. Then a right‑wing cross fell straight at Joshua Kimmich, who shot past Dortmund’s keeper to seal a 3‑2 win in the 87th minute.

With the win Bayern regained an 11‑point margin in the standings, keeping them firmly on the road to the title.
