Berlin & Brandenburg: Highest Gas Prices in Germany

Motorists in Berlin and Brandenburg are currently facing the highest fuel prices nationwide, according to a recent analysis by the German Automobile Club (ADAC). Brandenburg leads the country in petrol prices, while Berlin records the highest diesel costs.

The average price for a litre of Super E10 gasoline is currently lowest in Saarland, at 1.606 euros. In contrast, Brandenburg drivers pay an average of 1.688 euros for the same litre – a difference of 8.2 cents. The price discrepancy is even more pronounced for diesel; while Rheinland-Pfalz offers the fuel at an average of 1.533 euros per litre, Berlin drivers are paying 1.629 euros.

The ADAC notes that Berlin’s position as the most expensive location for diesel is unusual, given the city’s typically high density of petrol stations which usually translate to more competitive pricing, suggesting potential for price reductions. Furthermore, the difference between Super E10 and diesel prices in Berlin is only around two cents, whereas a difference of six to ten cents is more common in other federal states.

The ADAC advises drivers to compare fuel prices before filling up, as evening hours typically offer savings of around 13 cents per litre compared to morning prices. The club also strongly recommends avoiding motorway fuel stations, where consumers pay an average of over 40 cents more per litre than at stations located off the motorway network.
