Berlin Defiant After Drone Incident Near Polish Border

The German government has affirmed its resolve not to be intimidated following the recent drone incident in Poland.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday in Berlin, responding to inquiries from the dts news agency, that while speculating on motives would be avoided, it was clear that Germany would not be intimidated and would act decisively, regardless. The spokesperson emphasized that collaborative action within the NATO area remains a fundamental principle, both as NATO allies and as EU partners.

Meanwhile, Deputy Government Spokesperson Sebastian Hille, addressing questions regarding whether Russia’s violation of NATO airspace was an attempt to test the military alliance’s readiness, acknowledged the ongoing threat environment. He indicated that allies are repeatedly “tested” citing the incident as a particular case, while also referencing regular occurrences in the Baltic Sea that necessitate vigilance.
