She argued that cleanliness fosters inclusivity and accessibility for all citizens.
A key demand from the Left Party revolves around improved waste disposal options, specifically addressing the challenges faced by residents dealing with larger items, such as furniture. Wolter drew attention to the difficulty faced by older citizens in particular, suggesting expanded local services to facilitate responsible disposal.
The party’s approach emphasizes collaboration with residents, proposing discussions aimed at empowering communities to take greater responsibility for their respective neighborhoods. Co-chair Maximilian Schirmer voiced criticism of the current coalition government’s policy priorities, pointing to growing poverty rates and the closure of youth centers, despite a record budget. He questioned the focus on large-scale events and urged the government to address underlying social inequalities, suggesting the misallocation of resources. Schirmer predicted a continued need for left-wing political action as long as residents’ concerns remain unaddressed.
Regarding potential future coalition formations following the 2026 parliamentary elections, both Wolter and Schirmer adopted a cautious tone. While ruling out automatic coalition agreements, they indicated openness to partnerships built on a shared vision for the city’s future development. Wolter emphasized the party’s high standards for governance, stating that she rarely hears a blanket rejection of participating in government.
