Berlin and the German Football Association (DFB) have extended their partnership and signed a framework agreement for the DFB-Pokal final that will remain in place until at least 2030.
The Senators’ Department for Interior and the DFB announced the agreement on Thursday.
Since 1985 the final has been played continuously at Berlin’s Olympiastadion, making the city the longest‑standing host of the competition.
Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) said that the final belongs to Berlin just as the stadium belongs to the city.
Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) highlighted the importance of major sporting events for the city and announced improvements to the South and East entrances of the Olympiastadion.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf underscored the tradition and emotional significance of the Berlin final. “The match at the Olympiastadion represents tradition, emotion and sporting excellence – values that make the cup unique” he said.
DFB General Secretary Holger Blask described the final as an important economic driver.
Timo Rohwedder, managing director of Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH, announced measures to improve the entrance situation at the South gate. “The discussions and preparations for that have been progressing for months” he added.
