Berlin’s social ticket for public transport is set to increase in price to €27.50 starting in early 2026. Social Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) announced the change in an interview with the Tagesspiegel newspaper. She indicated that the final price represents a compromise, as significantly higher increases were initially considered.
The social ticket program is designed to ensure mobility for residents receiving social benefits. Kiziltepe stated the upcoming price point represents a return to the level it was at before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The original price of the ticket when it was introduced by former Senator Elke Breitenbach was €27.50.
The price of the social ticket was previously raised from €9 to €19 in April 2025, reflecting ongoing budget consolidation efforts. Kiziltepe expressed a desire to maintain the current price, but ultimately had to adjust to meet budgetary requirements.
