Tens of thousands gathered on Saturday for the techno parade “Rave the Planet,” which spanned the area between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column in Berlin. The event took place under brilliant sunshine, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius in the shade, prompting the use of water cannons to help attendees cool down.
The festivities began with a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of the attack on the Christopher Street Day three weeks earlier, which had occurred in the same location. Police maintained a large presence once again, securing numerous access roads with vehicle barriers. However, mirroring the situation during CSD, many pathways on the outskirts of the event area remained unsecured, becoming vibrant spots where countless people continued to celebrate and dance freely.
Many participants view “Rave the Planet” as the spiritual successor to the legendary “Loveparade.” Meanwhile, the rival event, the “Love Train,” which follows a similar tradition and was scheduled to take place in two weeks, was canceled immediately following the CSD attack due to security concerns.
