Berlin’s Naturalizations Soar to Record 39,000, Hamburg Rounds 11,500

Berlin has nearly doubled the number of naturalisations it granted last year, according to data from the state’s immigration office cited by the newspaper “Bild” in its Wednesday edition. In 2025 a total of 39 034 people received German citizenship-a figure almost twice as high as the 21 811 naturalisations recorded in 2024 and almost four times the 9 041 of 2023. The capital has thus reached a new record.

The increase is not confined to Berlin. Hamburg also set a new high in 2025, with 11 532 people naturalised, up from 7 538 in 2023 and 9 599 in 2024, according to the same report.
