Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has become the target of a major cyberattack. The company reported that funds worth nearly three billion US dollars were frozen to prevent a massive theft. All deposit and withdrawal services have been temporarily suspended.
Analysts suggest this could be one of the largest crypto thefts ever recorded. Initially, the scale of the attack was unclear, and Binance released contradictory statements, assuring users that their funds were safe while simultaneously promising to cover any losses. According to subsequent reports, the total stolen sum is estimated to be around 5.912 billion dollars, which is nearly four times the amount stolen in the largest hack recorded in February 2025.
Analysts suspect that a North Korean hacking group is responsible for the attack. Binance confirmed that the intrusion occurred via the laptop of one of its engineers, who reportedly provided the assailants access to a service container. The exchange is currently collaborating with law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the stolen funds.
