The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) currently classifies 410 individuals as Islamist threats. Additionally, the BKA spokesman told the newspapers of “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” for their Tuesday editions that there are 65 individuals identified as threats in the field of far-right extremism and 17 threats in the field of left-wing extremism.
A person is considered a threat if they are suspected of committing major acts of violence, such as attacks or terrorist acts. However, the spokesman stressed that the designation of a person as a threat, or as a “relevant person” (who is a supporter of a threat), is made by the respective federal states. The reasons for including or excluding someone from this list are varied and must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Consequently, the number of threats and relevant persons is subject to fluctuation.
Furthermore, the BKA spokesman pointed out that the number of threats and relevant individuals alone does not provide a complete picture of the overall threat level.
