Sebastian Kehl is no longer the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund. The club announced on Sunday that the board and Kehl had reached a “mutually agreed” decision to end their collaboration.
Sporting general manager Lars Ricken explained that, in a very open discussion with Kehl and executive chairman Carsten Cramer, the three parties came to a shared conviction that the summer was the right time for change. To allow both sides to prepare, they agreed on an immediate termination of Kehl’s duties.
Kehl had first joined the club in 2018 as head of the licensing players’ division, a role he held for four years during which Dortmund won the DFB‑Pokal in 2021. In the summer of 2022 he succeeded as sporting director, leading the Black‑and‑whites into the 2024 Champions League final.
