Following weeks of declining fuel prices, a recent upward trend has emerged at petrol stations across the country. According to an analysis published Wednesday by the German Automobile Club (ADAC), the average price for a liter of Super E10 gasoline has risen by 0.8 cents within the past week, now reaching 1.658 euros. Diesel fuel has seen an even more pronounced increase, climbing 1.3 cents to an average of 1.572 euros per liter.
The ADAC attributes this price increase primarily to a slight rise in global oil prices (Brent crude), currently trading around 67 US dollars per barrel. The exchange rate between the Euro and the US dollar has remained relatively stable in recent weeks, showing minimal fluctuation.
Notably, the price gap between Super E10 and diesel, which had widened recently, is now narrowing. The difference has decreased from 9.1 cents per liter last week to 8.6 cents currently, moving further away from the substantial tax differential of over 20 cents per liter.
The ADAC points to ongoing geopolitical tensions, specifically the military developments between Israel, the US and Iran – and the associated risk of disruption to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz – as contributing factors to this sustained situation, which has persisted since mid-June.
