The members of the CDU Brandenburg voted overwhelmingly in favour of a coalition agreement with the SPD to form a state government.
Party chairman Jan Redmann made the announcement on Saturday. In a membership poll that gathered 1,618 votes from around 5,000 members, 83 % supported the deal. The state board noted the result and then approved the coalition on a unanimous vote.
Redmann thanked the members and said that the real work of governing will now begin. He presented the CDU’s personnel proposals for the next state government to the board. According to the proposals, Steeven Bretz will become the new chairman of the CDU faction in the state parliament; the elections for this position are scheduled for next Tuesday.
For ministerial posts the CDU recommends Gordon Hoffmann for Education, Youth and Sports and Martina Klement of the CSU for the Economy portfolio. Jan Redmann himself is slated to serve as deputy premier and interior minister. The state-secretary positions will be filled by Isabelle Haß in Education, Markus Niggemann in Economy, and Uwe Schüller in Interior. Julian Brüning, a state parliament member, will temporarily take on the role of general secretary of the Brandenburg CDU.
