The planned coalition between the SPD and CDU in Brandenburg has cleared its final hurdle.
At a state party conference in Potsdam, the Social Democrats approved the coalition agreement in an open vote with a decisive majority: nearly 96 percent of the delegates sided with the pact with the Union.
Earlier, CDU members had also expressed clear support in a survey, with about 83 percent voting in favor according to party figures. The agreement will remain in force until the 2029 state election.
Following the collapse of the SPD‑BSW coalition, the SPD and CDU intend to govern together for the remaining three and a half years until that election. The coalition contract is set to be signed on Monday by Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) and the designated interior minister Jan Redmann (CDU).
