The state of Brandenburg’s Interior Minister, René Wilke (independent), has intervened in the case of a family of six who were deported to Iraq despite a pending expedited legal challenge. According to a statement released by the ministry on Friday, the family is being considered for repatriation should the subsequent court ruling be upheld.
The family, originating from the Uckermark district, was deported last Tuesday following a rejection of their asylum application deemed manifestly unfounded. Authorities report receiving the expedited legal challenge against the deportation after the family was already on the aircraft en route to Iraq. The Potsdam Administrative Court later suspended the deportation order.
Minister Wilke clarified that the responsible authorities bear no blame, asserting they only became aware of the court’s decision after the family had arrived in Baghdad. Discussions are now underway between federal and state agencies to facilitate the family’s return, contingent on the issuance of necessary travel documents by the federal government.
