The planned pension and health reforms will not be rushed by the governing black‑red coalition, said Bundestag president Julia Klöckner (CDU) to the daily editions of the Funke media group. She warned that the parliament must take the time it needs.
Klöckner recalled how the heating‑law legislation in the previous term had been pushed through without adequate time to read hundreds of pages, hear expert testimony, or fully assess the consequences. “We will take the time we need” she said. “In the upcoming reforms, no one should be able to rush Parliament while all parties take their time”.
The government, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), is planning significant overhauls of the social‑insurance system. Expert commissions will shortly present proposals. Klöckner stressed that the decisive arena is the Bundestag itself, not the coalition committee composed of CDU, CSU and SPD leaders. While that committee may meet whenever it wishes, real results only come when laws pass through Parliament. “The day‑to‑day rhythm of the Bundestag, not a rotating coalition committee, should set the agenda and drive legislation” she added.
